Merriette Chance Pollard, MA
About me
Pollard has had an "eclectic" professional career, having served as a Public School Teacher; Coordinator of Peer Counseling and Tutorial Programs at Livingston College( NC); Director of Minority Retention and Program Development (La Roche College in PA); Program Associate to Vice President of Academic Affairs and Assistant Professor of Sociology and Gerontology at Grambling State University; and Executive Director of the Dunbar Association in Syracuse, NY. Pollard received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Shaw University with a Major in Education and a Minor in Biology (1969); Master of Arts Degree from the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration with a concentration in Social Treatment (1973); Certification in Gerontology from the Center for Studies in Aging, North Texas State University (1986); and further postgraduate study (ABD) at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. While in Maxwell her qualitative research focused on defining successful aging in older Black women 70+ who are low-income and living alone. In retirement she is serving on the Trinity Health of New York Board of Trustees and as a Volunteer Consultant to The Dunbar Association Board. She has been married to Dr. William Pollard for 57 years, has two adult sons and two wonderful grandsons.
